There just aren’t enough hours in the day, days in the week. My holiday long weekend was full of intensity, mostly good, some not so good, and now it’s time to hit the ground running in preparation for this weekend’s Holiday Heap! I’m so excited though: new books on the way, planners in small and large sizes, binding binding binding binding! As it gets dark much earlier, I find myself only interested in binding books and going to yoga. Tempting me out of hibernation usually requires the promise of all things beer, specific company, and karaoke. I could perhaps be persuaded with the regular sushi, but this week it’s time for drawing, cutting, collating, sewing, gluing, and an occasional break to take a Vinyasa. Power through it! Hope to see you out at 2640 on Saturday!

Warren Seelig, one of my mentors from grad school and major influences, is exhibiting a retrospective of his work at MICA! This is awesome news, and I can’t wait to see his fiber pieces in the space. Aww. His critiques were really pivotal in helping me shape my thesis and body of work of the last 3 years. This is so great.

strawberry milkshake
three modelos with lime
one oyster shooter
2 chile rellenos on a platter with rice, beans, and salad
1 sangria
gummi centipedes
1 blonde ale
1 spaten dunkel
2 bullets of deliciousness
1 PBR
one jr. whataburger and fries and picante sauce
I’m snuggling in C’s cloudy poof of a bed, shaking off my ringing ears of tonight’s mayhem, and loving up this permanent-vacation, no-schedule town. Tomorrow: botanical gardens, swimming, bats, and more taking care of my food baby. I bought some great vintage cowboy boots too; apparently I have such tiny feet that I can shop in the kids section of the little stores down here. cute! Vacations are the shit!
I am really, really, reallyreally, really excited to see Thao with the Get Down Stay Down with my favorite people tonight in DC! Besides being all around awesome, her music has gotten me through some long, exhausting drives, and various amounts of heartache in the last few years. They’ve got a new album out via Kill Rock Stars and I’m loving it so far.
Also in DC tonight, check out new work by Martha Jackson-Javis at the Hillyer. Hooray for art and my favorite people and this weather and dancing in my boots.
Oh bring your hips, oh oh bring your hips to me.
this weather and the awesomeness of life just make me so shmoopy these days. smiles, smiles, and more smiles.
My dear friend Lindsay is currently living at the Women’s Studio Workshop (aka one of the most amazing print places on earth), and I am totally digging this montage of a recent WSW project. Assembled and collaged by Abigail Uhteg of January Press, this video is just mesmerizing, and makes me wish I had constant access to an etching studio, paper vats, and private bindery. I could watch this over and over again!
