Diamonds on my neck, d-diamonds on my grillll

It’s official! The Baltimore Community Foundation has announced their Confetti Grant recipients, and the Hexagon is among this group of Awesome! I can’t even begin to express how ecstatic I am about this, how I tiptoed into the space a little over a year ago just to meet some creative people in a new town and am a part of a big quirky family striving to bring the best in emerging art and music to Baltimore. We are so darn pumped. AND totally flattered to receive these grants along with our local friends and colleagues who share our DIY vision. Like seriously, when I look over that list of recipients, I am so proud that we were all considered together.

Go Baltimore!
Go Hexagon!
Go DIY!
Go Collectivism!!
Happy New Year!!!!

ugh ugh ugh Neurotic Phu made a guest appearance in my life this morning as I irrationally started getting irritated with myself for not having an exhibition plan of my own work for 2010 (I try to have my work in 3-5 shows a year), which is dumb because HELLO, it is NOT EVEN 2010 yet. what is my problem??? I obviously need more booze and fewer emails in my life. someday…

This is coming up next week, details very soon:

Tesla Coil Xmas Trees!

Happy Holidays!!!

idea time

ideally for this very specific space I love in Philly

and conveniently, there is a deadline soon.

black lines starting in the lecture space; debris across the floor, even beside reception desk; it slowly accumulates along the threshold, below and above, leading into the space; growing up from the ground and then creeping along the wall until there is a burst of darkness and line and ink and hair and silk; and facing, from the window light, opposing masses of black lines are white/clear/dirty/translucent marks, opposite in pigment and even dirtier as you inspect them; grid of drawing squares; prints on methyl cellulose hanging, floated, from the wall surface; alternating wax and glue. 3 installations to fill the room.

Given how accessible and public this here blargh is, I never use this thing for hashing out my in-betweens; So public with product and private with process, but maybe, maybe, maybe I’ll change it up a little.

Things

A bunch of things:

snowman

Snoooooooooowwww!!! Being snowed in and being lazy! I never did make it out sledding, but eventually managed to build a snowman with one of my best buds in the park’s fountain.

Thank you to everyone who shared their goals and ambitions for 2010. I had Randomizer.org give me an integer, and the winner of this giveaway is Jamie! Jamie’s goals for 2010 include being more productive, getting out of the house, and exploring her city more. Keep an eye on your mailbox Jamie, I’ll be sending goodies your way this week.

For a hot-minute, I thought I had some cool stuff to blog about, but now it’s just a jumble of non-words. Will be blogging less frequently for the next few weeks as I do some holiday traveling while also trying to dig myself out of some cool projects. Keep ya posted. In the meantime, how about some visuals:

Some really cool painting/sculptures based on the artists accumulations and collages. by Robert Moya.

THIS is a pretty amazing animation of my favorite things–books, trees, intricate paper cut-outs… how long did this take them?

lookit how pretty this tape is! (via Apartment therapy)

okay, nevermind, that’s all. Blogging is exhausting.

JS in CP

I can never say this enough, but my favorite thing about Baltimore is how multi-faceted everyone’s talents are. I pride myself in knowing that I’m friends with some of the most brilliant people I’ve ever met. Like seriously: get our quirky little Smalltimore circles together in a room, and the mind bullets would be astounding.

My pal justin sirois is featured in this week’s City Paper. Here’s hoping that this, along with all the other awesome press he’s received, gets his novel out soon. Good on ya, Little J!

holy heckers,

you guys are fast! 5 planners sold, and 2431 comments in!

cooooool, what a response so far! I love reading the range of all of these goals, some small, some large, all different ways that we try to keep our lives full and happy. aw. <3

New Goodies on Etsy, and a giveaway!

Hey gang, two exciting bits of news today, of the Phampersand nature.

I’ve fiiiiiiinalllyyyyyyyyy updated my Etsy Shop with 10 new day planners (this year in two sizes!) and 3 fun blank books bound in hand-dyed Tyvek (that stuff that they put on the side of houses or use to make mailers). If you’re in the market for a planner, I suggest that you act fast because they sold very quickly last year. I tried really hard to pick some cool unique papers, and if they get a good response, I’ll be ordering more patterned paper soon. This is all I have right now though.

edit: I’ve already sold one, get to it, y’all! (Hi Kelsey!!)

But also also also, I’m pumped to try something I’ve never done with my blog before, a giveaway! That’s right, you could win your very own Phampersand Press day planner–it’ll look just like this but with a purple ribbon instead of green. I’ll even throw in a couple extra goodies. All you have to do is leave me a comment with your name, email address, and share with me whatever fun goals you have for the coming year. Maybe your goal is to stay more organized, and hopefully I can help with that! (can’t say I’m the most organized myself…)

You have until Sunday, December 20th to enter, and I’ll pick one lucky commenter at random to receive some Phampersand Press treats. Cool? I think so!

p.s. Only one comment per person, please.

on the horizon sketches

-sadly, not being able to fund a project that we wanted to do
-brightly, floor repairs and collaborations approaching
-space-share/swap?
-thesis curating of the non Artsy crowd?
-installations, bigger bigger bigger, waxier
-ugh when am I ever going to finish these prints
-these drawings ought to extend into my bedroom

after midnight

looks like I’ve still got some mojo after all? with an assist by Jonas.
