A Heapload of Thanks

to everyone who came out to Saturday’s Holiday Heap!!

Lookit all those people who came out, even in the snow! There were times where you couldn’t even walk through the aisles! (My table and fancy new banner were tucked behind that second pillar on the left.)

We Mafiosos have been gushing to each other about how awesome everyone was–vendors and shoppers, and not sleeping Friday night followed by a loooong 14 hour day was totally worth it. A perfect winter weekend, really. Gigantic snowflakes all day, my favorite crafters, Manfriends earning their keep by helping us break down the space after we were probably too delirious to be on ladders, greeting lots and lots of buddies old and new, a new headband from the Candy Thief, and sooooo. much. coffee.

Newest discovery while work-work-working: Egg Nog instead of cream in my coffee. Amazing.

After a well-earned treat of samosas and jehangiri kofta from my favorite Indian place up the block, I totally crash-snuggled as soon as we left on Saturday. I was looking forward to a day of re-inventorying and looking for the motivation to wear pants on Sunday, until I remembered that I had organized an install day at the gallery! OOPS! all was well though: finally rested, show goes up without a hitch, and a refreshing session of hot hot hot yoga wrapped up the whirlwind weekend.

Re-inventory/re-stock of my Etsy shop this week. Stay tuned!

to do, to do, to do, to do, tomorrow

Just got home from a lovely evening with my neighborhood buddies, watching the annual Monument lighting ceremony. I don’t know what it is about this time that gets me all shmoopy, but the lights blinking in every window, hiding behind poofy sweaters and scarves, shoving my little hand into the pocket of your coat, all of that gets me so corny and smiley and happy to be nostalgic and alive. Fireworks, too.

My To Do list has grown a To Do list; pretty soon it will just grow some legs and run around my apartment, taunting me.

All for good reason though, which is of course this year’s Annual Holiday Heap!!!!

we’re gearing up and pretty darn excited. With each show we do, I love that we get better and better, and I’m honored to be showing with my little crafty family here. I have piles of new day planners, all collated and wanting glue. some new upcycled materials using some cool oooooold book covers with the original marbled paper. bookmarks. tyvek.

I had ambitious intentions tonight of finishing a few bindings, but this work week so took it out of me that I will dare go to bed NOW and wake up way way way early (did I mention? I don’t think any of us Mafia members will be sleeping at all on Friday) to get done portion 1 of 54269786327856349287326479 of this monstrous to do list. And then we’ll have the show, and then there will be lots of thumbs up. (and hopefully mama treatin us to dinner, wokka wokka).

See you at 2640!!! If I don’t sell out of everything (and there are always some things left), I think try my hand at a blog giveaway. That’s enough though! ambitious to bed!

Studio: Clean Thyself!

There just aren’t enough hours in the day, days in the week. My holiday long weekend was full of intensity, mostly good, some not so good, and now it’s time to hit the ground running in preparation for this weekend’s Holiday Heap! I’m so excited though: new books on the way, planners in small and large sizes, binding binding binding binding! As it gets dark much earlier, I find myself only interested in binding books and going to yoga. Tempting me out of hibernation usually requires the promise of all things beer, specific company, and karaoke. I could perhaps be persuaded with the regular sushi, but this week it’s time for drawing, cutting, collating, sewing, gluing, and an occasional break to take a Vinyasa. Power through it! Hope to see you out at 2640 on Saturday!

almost here…

A crafty weekend in Philly

Hey Philly readers! Brave the showers on Saturday and come check out TWO crafty events:

I’m tabling with Amanda D’Amico of Tiny Revolutionary Press at Little Berlin’s BYOTY and we’ll be selling artist books from our presses and from our colleagues. Lots and lots of limited editions and fine press books, perhaps some broadsides too.

Lotsss of my Baltimore craft peers will also be selling at Squidfire’s first ever Philly art mart too. Get a preview of what we’ve all got in store for the upcoming season of holiday shows. Philly Philly Phillyyyy, it’s been a while, can’t wait to seeya.

Holiday Heap, 2009

I’m no good at being a year-round crafter, though I’d probably be better at it if there weren’t so many awesome pies in my life to try. But where you *can* catch me, for sure, every year is the Charm City Craft Mafia’s annual Holiday Heap! We are taking applications NOW, and they close in a couple weeks, so think fast! I’m not as well-seasoned in the craft show circuit as some of my Mafia cohorts, but I will say that it’s one of my favorite shows to work. The Charles Village space is lovely and we always get a warm, supportive crowd.

Also, I have postcards for our show opening next week! If you would like me to mail you one, send me your mailing address at my contact page. I promise I won’t spam you about “enhancement” drugs or send you coupons. I may add you to my occasional email newsletter, which you are always welcome to decline.

And finally, my good friends at My House Gallery now have a sweet blog. Alex and I are working on a really exciting collaboration between his space and the Hexagon, where we have curated cross-city pairs for the ultimate in experimental communication. We will officially announce details this weekend!

Assorted photos these days

Swamped this week and trying to be outside as much as possible, before the heat and thick humidity come… here are some assorted pictures (sorry to lack text-substance today, and apparently complete sentences… just busy busy busy)

One day to go…

…until this year’s Pile of Craft!

Here’s a little sneak preview of one half of my bench at home:

I spy: some hand-dyed tyvek, vintage book covers, new pocket-books, and paper, paper, paper. That shiny pointy thing above my pen and pencil is my new ornamented steel awl that I purchased at the book fair a couple weeks ago. Pretty enticing, eh? Come see more tomorrow at Pile of Craft!! xoxo

Don’t forget! Pile of Craft this Saturday!

I’ve got some new goodies to share, including hand-dyed tyvek and journals in vintage book covers!
